Anglo North Irish Fish Producers Organisation
Located at our office in Kilkeel, the Anglo-North Irish Fish Producers Organisation (ANIFPO) has been providing a range of services to Northern Irish fishermen since 1984.
Our speciality is in the areas of:
and increasingly marketing
Each area is carefully managed to promote, protect and enhance the lives and livelihood of our fishermen.
Our members are based in harbours throughout the UK in various locations.
ANIFPO was founded in 1984, as a non-profit making co-operative. Initially, the ANIFPO was based in England, hence the inclusion of “Anglo” in its title, but since most of its member fishing vessels were from Northern Ireland, the base was soon moved across the Irish Sea.
We manage fish quotas with our members in order to maximise sustainable fishing opportunities
We represent the views and opinions of our members at local, national and European level on a wide range of issues
Fish Selling Division
We increase the value of our members catches through our fish selling division and by promoting improved quality control procedures by our members
Anglo-North Irish Fish Producers Organisation is managed by a Board consisting of ten Directors, who are elected on an annual basis by the membership of the PO. The Board is headed by a Chairman who serves a two-year term. The Board meets on a regular basis and is charged with making all policy and management decisions relating to both the day-to-day operations of the PO and associate companies.
The PO is a constituent organisation within the UK’s National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations (NFFO) and holds two seats on the NFFO’s Executive Committee. Through the NFFO the PO is involved in a range of national and European forums. NFFO Services provides a range of liaison roles with offshore developers.
There have been some noticeable developments in the history of the Organisation, one of the most recent ones being the decision by the members of the Fleetwood FPO to join with ANIFPO. This was a very welcome decision, with our new members officially joining on 1st January 2018. The Fleetwood members see ANIFPO as offering enhanced representation across a range of issues, including Brexit. In addition, it opens new and improved opportunities for quota management, not just for the Fleetwood members, but also the original ANIFPO members. One thing for sure is that the members of the Anglo-North Irish and Fleetwood FPOs are together better equipped to handle new challenges. Our combined ethos is simple - the PO exists to benefit our members - reduced PO levy, reduced costs to rent quota, accessing valuable alternative opportunities for our members - all designed to maximise the economic viability of our members, their crews and the communities in which they are based.
