Anglo North Irish Fish Producers Organisation

About us

From our offices in Kilkeel, the Anglo-North Irish Fish Producers Organisation (ANIFPO) has been proud to serve Northern Ireland’s fishermen since 1984.

We are driven by our desire to do the very best we can for the fishermen we serve.  We pride ourselves in excellent customer service and providing flexible solutions for the opportunities and challenges faced by Northern Ireland’s fishermen.

Our specialities are in the areas of:

  • Management of our members quota allocations

  • Representation for our members and crew at regional, national and international levels

  • Marketing world class seafood from Northern Ireland

  • Promoting the sustainable development of our industry, which means looking after the fish stocks on which we depend, as well as the safety and welfare of our crews.

Each area is carefully managed to promote, protect and enhance the lives and livelihood of our fishermen and our coastal communities.  Our members contribute a levy (0.8% of the value of their gross landings) to help pay for the running costs of the core Organisation.

Our members land their catches into harbours throughout the UK and further afield.

ANIFPO was founded in 1984, as a non-profit making co-operative. Initially, the ANIFPO was based in England, hence the inclusion of “Anglo” in its title, but since most of its member fishing vessels were from Northern Ireland, the base was soon moved across the Irish Sea.

Member Benefits

Representation

We represent the views and opinions of our members at local, national and European level on a wide range of issues

Fish Sales Division

Our fish sales division is organised within the core of ANIFPO. We handle catches for our own members and non-members alike. Expenses are paid for by a competitive commission of 4.5% on the gross value of landings.

Sales are made to a range of local, national and international seafood companies. Depending on the time of year and weather, weekday auctions are held in Kilkeel where catches are sold via a traditional shout/bidding system.

There is no obligation on members to land their catches through their fish sales company. The ethos is focused on creating competition and securing the best prices for all our fishermen.

Anglo-North Irish Fish Producers Organisation is managed by a Board consisting of eight Directors, who are elected on an annual basis by the membership of the PO. The Board is headed by a Chairman who serves a two-year term. The Board meets on a regular basis and is charged with making all policy and management decisions relating to both the day-to-day operations of the PO and associate companies.

Our ethos is simple - the PO exists to benefit our members - local fishermen.

To help with this we:

  • Lead in the area of fishermen’s welfare and safety

  • promote the sustainable management of fish and shellfish stocks

  • reduce levies and commissions paid by fishermen

  • reduce costs to rent quota

  • encourage competition in regional fish auctions

  • access valuable alternative opportunities for our members

  • enhance the provision of skills training

 - all designed to maximise the economic viability of our members, their crews and the communities in which they are based, as well as the sustainability of the fish and shellfish stocks on which we all depend.
